OK. Just a few questions:
1.) [low priority] Is there some elegant way to assign
TEXMFHOME=home:Library/texmf just on Mac OS X? (Or maybe
TEXMFHOME={home:Library/texmf,home:texmf} would work ...)
2.) [higher priority] I don't know why, but until I deleted the old
caches entirely, I kept getting a weird long list of messages:

(format changes in an almost incompatible way ... but the version
stays the same :) :) :)
4.) I just realized that TEXMFEXTRA is present in MKII, but absent in
MKIV (that is probably why fixing the module didn't work earlier).
Would it make sense to unify that?
