Why do you need an API standardized by the W3C?

I raised this with the W3C geo group and was soundly rebuffed. With zero

There are dozens of popular apps, comprising hundreds of thousands of users
-millions perhaps- that we are eliminating by not providing the APIs required.

There is an additional problem that there is no web api to get accurate info

Do you know if there's a bug filed on that or any work going on? This would be
useful to multiple apps.
