I guess this works the other way to. That is failing registrars could "fall back" on Tucows should they decide to give up thier ICANN accreditation as they know there current system could plug directly into Tucows. Then, if they recover, they could go back to being ICANN acredited and plu directly back into the registries.

I think this could be a *VERY* exploitable way to go!

Of course there are actually 2 different registry backends as I recall (.INFO versus .COM for example, but rumor has is that .COM might actually be dragged into the 21st century ... :) ) so at the mement there are really 2 plugs / registration standards that would need to be implemented.
