An interesting "value add" to implementing a true registry system might be that Tucows would be the only reseller (!) which provides scalibilty right though becoming an independent ICANN registrar!
Very few are likely to go that far, espicially due to the other libilities & BS, but none the less a reseller would know that they could use the entire system they developed to "plug in" to Tucows or "plug in" directly to the registry if they go full ICANN accreditation. It's an interesting stratigy .....
It's kinda like buying an "upgradable" PC ... The entire industry knows that people do purchase PC's due to the freedom to upgrade but fact is very few people really do upgrade. ;)
