How are you doing credit cards now? Do you do real time
authorizations, or do you have a terminal solution or PC Software?
If you are starting totally from scratch, you should first select a
merchant account provider and a real time transactions provider. This
is not exactly a cheap thing to do when getting setup for the first
time. You can expect to fork out some money. Then when you have a
real time transaction provider, you can get someone to modify the
scripts to work with the provider (such as Authorize.net).
If that is not an option, then you can maybe look at getting a
business account at http://www.paypal.com/ and use their Web Accept
feature for their business account clients. It's not a merchant
account, and in effect your clients are paying X.com/Paypal who then
pays you, and it isn't an instant "real time" system, but at least it
would get you through the initial period, and when you have some more
captial you can get a merchant account and real time interface.
The most dependable and affordable merchant account service provider
I've found has been http://www.merchant-account-4u.com/index.html and
they have an authorize.net purchase option, as well as a lease if you
can't afford the upfront cash.
But if you do not already have a merchant account, there is no way to
avoid it costing you some money upfront.
