Thank, yes. This is all ultimately a question of how Tucows wants to
handle releasing code. My system is totally command line driven and
includes a thin portion of the SF client and an entirely new front end.
This puts me in "support yourself" territory big time. The ability to
integrate a payment system is a good idea for a hook, but hopefully
Tucows will see fit to release/support something that:

(1) Provides a native Perl API that can be used as the basis for web,
command line, and web service versions of "clients".

(2) Provides hooks in the web version that allows people to do all of
these crazy things they want and still be able to upgrade to the latest
stuff. I could care less about this, but obviously enough other people do
to figure out what an initial set of hook points would be. I for one
don't register a domain unless someone has an existing account with us.
The hooks should let us pre-fill their org/admin/bill contact information
from their account information. We also don't create the domain until our
DNS farm has been notified to pick things up. And we track it all in a
database we made up ourselves. Maybe a standard plug-in should be
provided for storing the registration process tracking data? And a table
for selecting server/key combinations would eliminate one more than that
should never have been stored in a Perl syntax file. At the very least,
use AppConfig.

(3) Provides cvs access instead of just snapshots. Why do we have to go
through this process of diff releases every time? cvs will do much of
this automatically. I doubt many of you would willing do a weekly cron of
"cvs update" given how many tweaks you've made, but if we get (2) licked
then we'll want to keep up to date and it won't be so scary and painful.

I personally haven't downloaded new source from SF or Tucows in at least a
year and I don't feel I'm missing anything.

No, no, you're not thinking, you're just being logical.
