spent a good deal of effort to create parallel versions of the
XML-RPC and SSL protocols.
Yes - back when we did this the very first time around we needed to work around a lot of the intellectual property and licensing considerations surrounding SSL and RRP.
The dynamic is a lot different now - for instance, we need to move forward in a way that doesn't break the thousands of installations that are currently out there. We're also a lot more careful with what goes in and why.
Anyways, I just wanted to point out that while a lot of the conditions that shaped the early versions of the protocol have since become irrelevant, the impact is still felt - definitely something to consider when evaluating the current state of the application and protocol.
