"I have not yet downloaded the final of 3.3. Does anyone know whether
the bug* that stops hard drive partitions automounting when Mepis is
installed to the hard drive, has been fixed.
This is one of the biggest consistent faults in MEPIS, and has been a
problem apparent in all releases so far.
If this has been fixed, Mepis will be suitable for beginners. If it has
not been fixed, then Xandros still beats Mepis hands down as a beginners
Linux distribution, which is a pity really, with all that Mepis has
going for it otherwise.

I am running Simply Mepis on three different boxes, one laptop, here and Pro Mepis beta as well on this box. All formatted hard drive partitions come up for the user's mouse click in the KDE GUI mode. I really do not completely understand the above question or complaint?? (This box has two WD 80GB hard drives with total of 23, combined, separate partitions all together on them and every one is accessible to the "click" for mount by the user from Mepis (both versions). I only complain about the crowded desktop! {{this BOX = Asus 800MHzFSB P4 2.8GHz, 512MB RAM AC97audio on board video. So far everything works.}}) *What bug?
It does not make sense to auto mount all partitions if they are available for the user when needed, then who cares? There are many distros that will not give the user this privilege without special root intervention.
Mandrake, 2 Yopers, 2 Slackware, four or five versions of Knoppix, selectable at boot time, and only God knows what else is loaded on this box. Mepis wins hands down for a reliable GUI click and drop kind of operation. My problem is I like them all...
I claim that Mepis is more than suitable for beginners, they really do not deserve it. Especially those who like their operating system's hoods being welded shut running Windoze.
Best to all, kb6vdo, Jim
