This exact same conversation is currently occurring with regard to dev.tech.gfx. My opinion is that we should treat dev.platform as our discussion list, presuming that people are interested in it or will ignore it, until we get to a point where our discussions become too unwieldy. (Pave the walking trails instead of presuming where people will walk, in other words.)
As long as we have a general consensus that this is the way to go, and actively push ourselves to do so, I think we'll be fine.
