There have been various discussions on bugs about the process of keeping the LDAP client branch that SeaMonkey and Thunderbird use up to date. I've been meaning to branch it out to here for a while, and we may need to branch it out to other newsgroups (m.d.a.seamonkey, m.d.a.thunderbird, m.d.planning) later.

My general thoughts are that the client branches should be kept stable, maybe being updated every time there is a c-sdk release. I think that patches should only be applied to a client branch when they are needed for bustage or major bug fixes, and as per Mozilla tree rules, they will need the sr of a developer (typically Dan).

Ok. Then I guess all we need to do is when we make bug fixes on the trunk, add Dan as a CC on the bug and just note that the fix is a good candidate for inclusion in the client.

If we are going to constantly synchronise the client branch with the c-sdk trunk, then there is not much point in having the trunk/branch split, and therefore just use the c-sdk trunk. This would then also have to obey all the rules of Mozilla checkins (i.e. not when the seamonkey/firefox/thunderbird trees are closed).

I do agree in any case that we need to keep the LDAP client branch and trunk more synchronised than we have done in the past, but its the level of synchronisation I think is up for debate.

Thoughts?
