PS. If this is the case, it would appear the Mozillazine documentation for network.http.use-cache isn't quite right. It states: "When a page is loaded, it can be cached so it doesn't need to be downloaded to be redisplayed. This preference controls whether to cache files retrieved by HTTP or HTTPS either in memory or on disk." But it looks like those files are still cached, but just not used when accessing stuff via the http(s) protocols.
