Many apps have a long name e.g., "Weather Channel" but when displayed in a context with limited space, the name won't fit. As such, on other platforms, many native apps provide an alternate short name. For example, the "Github issues" app shows up as "Issues" on my phone. Same with "Robot Unicorn Attack 2", which shows up on the home screen as "RUA2".
When searching for an app (on the phone and in a store), both the long name and the short name can be used as indexes to match on. Is this something we should add to the manifest format (i.e., "short_name")? I can add it on the W3C side, if people think it's a good idea.
