I would never want to have a language notation other than UML.
If someone sent me a diagram that had elements for some other notation
then presumably the potion you are discussing would redraw the diagram
for me UML only while not actually changing the users model.
That sounds like a good thing to me.
Would this also get users past problems such as issue 4226?

Hmm, ... my new Notation archtecture that is (almost) implemented
completely now, supports different notation languages.

So, I will not remove that, but I do draw the conclusion that you won't
mind if the "Use only UML notation" setting is removed :-)
