Hello all!
As you may remember, in this year's Google Summer of Code, I created a
specific part of the /branches directory where students were allowed to
commit. I think this worked well, allowing for easier merging and comparing.
I would like to go further. We could either allow all Observers commit
access to another part of the /branches directory or we could allow a
selected number of persons i.e. a new "Contributor" role access to parts or
the whole of the /branches directory. That would allow anyone that wants to
submit a patch the option of working against the subversion repository while
developing, sharing, and showcasing their work.
One consequence of this is that the commits mailing list is not splittable
so all commits will be seen no matter what branches they are made on.
Is this a good idea as a complement to the "create a patch and attach or
mail it"? Is it in line with better use of Eclipse as a development tool?
As always I think the Contributor and the Developer about to commit the work
need to agree on the best way to do it but this will give them another
option.
