Supersedes #33, which identified the use of Java 9 APIs in `EventSelector`. * Replaced `List.of()` and `List.copyOf()` in `EventSelector` with `Collections.emptyList()` and `Collections.unmodifiableList()`, keeping the field immutable * Added `<release>8</release>` to the compiler plugin configuration, as `source` and `target` alone do not stop Java 9+ APIs from compiling on a newer JDK The bus tests are compiled at release 16, so the test changes and whitespace cleanup from #33 are not needed.
