been through it. looks good. may be some subtleties which will only come
out as we use it but feels like the right idea and rightly done. minor
changes. i'll look at the failing test -- seems like a real problem, maybe due
to not deduping the list? -- then merge with the fix, unless there is anything
non-obvious.
