DI is 1% of the original avalon idea. In fact, the only thing that was injected were the configurations and the component manager (than people saw that and not the real power of simple aspect orientation and Fowler made it big misnaming it).
Technologically speaking, I still believe that the original block+component avalon model is far superior to a silly DI pattern.
real block kernel and Rickard Oberg's AOP framework, this would be modern.
