Well, in principal I would agree with you except for two things.
1. 2.1 will move into maintenance mode only when a 2.2 is released.
Talking about 3.0 won't make that happen.
2. This community has had a terrible problem moving forward over the
last 2 years. While I generally agree that the items mentioned for 3.0
are a good thing, my fear as that folks will start jumping on those and
never finish polishing up a 2.2 release.
