Fil,

I'm sure we'll be going over our release process ad nauseam over the
next few weeks, but I don't think that is an accurate portrayal of how
this release was handled.

This was a breakdown in communication, and delegation of responsibility.

What you describe in your last paragraph is exactly what happened:
others stepped up to the plate to test and tag projects that they
might not normally contribute to or maintain, but know how to use. The
problem was we didn't know that it was going to be required of us
ahead of time. Sorting through this disorganization delayed the timely
release of 2.8rc1, and with 3.0 looming, this simply cannot happen
again.

If you normally tag a platform for a release, and you know a release
is looming, and you know you'll be away at a conference, your due
diligence is to ensure that someone else knows it will be their job
your absence.

I'd like to thank Steve again for getting this release out from
jsconf. He stepped up to the plate, worked through last minute
problems with coho and got the rc out on short notice.
