Robert, did you exactly follow the instructions at http://wiki.apache.org/couchdb/Test_procedure and did you use https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/couchdb/source/1.6.0/rc.5/apache-couchdb-1.6.0.tar.gz for the tests? I am a bit surprised and would expect, that Garren had the same error ...
