at least for me, this pull request fixes the closing problem with Spark.
Did you experience the hang at the start before or just with the latest
Crail version?

Daemonize the keepalive thread to allow applications to
exit when the main method returns without closing the
storage client explicitly. For example, Spark has this
requirement.
