I am managing an OpenOffice FTP mirror on ftp.free.fr/ftp.proxad.net.
A new version was released last week but : ** only HTTP mirrors seem to be "listed" ** -> should FTP mirrors stop mirroring OpenOffice as they won't be used anymore ? ** a download server is randomly given ** -> as users usually choose a local mirror (*), this helps to limit transit bandwidth use (thus decreasing the mirror cost) and to increase download speed (local links have usually more bandwidth on local/peering links than on transit links). Living in France, the first server given was in Taiwan... François (*) Two or three years ago, I made a small study on FTP mirror users. We already had at that time several peering links in Europe and we were managing our own IX in France.
