Andrew, many thanks for taking the lead on this. I agree it needs to be
done, but unfortunately we can't force people to keep quiet :-(
I've added a version 2 to the wiki, strengthening the 'please do not
damage the community' message. Hopefully if we appeal to people's better
nature and explain the damage they could cause then they will be more
willing to comply...
Yesterday I saw about 50 announcements about 2.4.0 final released. Many
were linking directly to mirrors. A few sites hosted the files
themselves. Links have already been posted to Digg twice. I'm sorry to
the new wiki page was not effective.
For next time, could the directories be locked down until the moment of
release? Fedora does that, and it is documented here
<http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure/Mirroring> under the
heading "Pre-bitflip mirroring."
