Hi Scott @all,
this are bad and very sad news!
I think no one could really imagine in how many tasks an project Gerry
was involved and now will be missed.
We was my guide and mentor on the documentation project and with the
setup guide. I never met him in person but several times in the www. I
will miss his energy and his clear words.
Shouldn't we put a hint about our in deep grief on the start page of
documentation.openoffice.org?
My thoughts go out to his family and friends too.
I will forward this sad news to ooauthors.org and the German dev list too.
We will miss him and his never sleeping eyes on so much tasks.

discussing the User Guide, and his plans for moving it forward, and I
found out his mother passed away about a week ago. Just the type guy he
was, he mentioned what was going on in his personal life after the
project was being discussed.

helping the project along for awhile before then. I consider him to be
a very close friend, even though we never met in person. Which is the
way it is with online communities like ours. We have talked about a
trip to Toronto at some point, but always felt there was time.
