Frank,
I endorse everything you say about the lack of clear workflow. I have
signed up to the documentation project but haven't produced a thing
because I'm still confused as to how to go about it.
John, depending on your areas of expertise and interest, you
might like to look what's being done at OOoAuthors. They have
what I think is a fairly clear workflow (write -> review -> edit)
using .odt files and a provided template. Several user guide
chapters need to be written from scratch, and many more need to
be updated to v2.3.1 of OOo.
If you prefer to work directly on items in the wiki, well...
while you're waiting for a clear workflow there, why not help out
at OOoAuthors? The books produced there are also going on the
wiki; most chapters are already there.
My motto is: Pick something obvious that needs doing (or
something you personally think is desperately needed) and Just Do
It!
