I've sent an email with this information to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to inform
the de-team. I think this will stop the creation of new DE:-sites inside the
wiki. I don't know how long it wil take to change all existing sites (and
links) to a new structure.
How should the structure of new sites correctly:
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/DE/Marketing_Start
instead of
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/DE:Marketing_Start ?
The structure can be /DE/ That works fine. Basically any structure is
OK as long as you don't use DE: or De: as part of the Wiki article name.
It is kind of a tossup how other groups are differentiating language
specific pages. Sometimes they simply put the page at the Wiki root,
and other times they use subpages.
If you use subpages (ie /DE/) you can use Google search within that
subpage set (much the same way you can use Wiki Namespaces to restrict
searches to specific language pages).
As for changing the existing pages, the initial change is relatively
easy. I can run a WikiBot over the DE: and De: pages moving them all to
/DE/. Internal links can also be corrected by a WikiBot. There are
only around 100 pages affected, so it is not a lot of work to manage it.
I can take care of running the WikiBot over the pages at some point in
the coming weeks - I will wait a bit though so that word can get around
to the DE community... and I want to test the WikiBot a little more
first before setting it to do this change.
Someone suggested (off list) that we might try using Apache ReWrite
rules to redirect any external links to the correct pages (because we
will need to remove the redirects as well to make sure that there are no
InterWiki errors). If anyone has any other suggestions for how to
handle this, feel free to speak up.
C.
