I hadn't actually tested out the patch, what I had said was that I could add a flag to make avro files behave like parquet and JSON, without schema validation. The patch made it so the behavior of directories would be different from that of individual files, removing the schema validation. I tried applying it just now and it still doesn't appear to make the dirN columns work, but I don't understand why. I will try to take a look tonight and post a patch. It will be up to Parth if he wants to put it in the release once the full fix is merged.
