Note that my advice for new devs is to first spend a few weeks monitoring the listserv, search the mail list archive, learning by observing, maybe reviewing the Pull Requests (PRs) in github. Maybe even provide a comment or support a changeset. There's a lot to understand here. Then, take on things like writing tests, or improving the documentation. Set up your dev environments. Maybe take on a small ticket within your expertise.
