For AIR apps, using the Google APIs as is in an HTML component should work fine.
As I understand it, the concern in this whole discussion is about web apps. Right? How is the maps actually displayed by the maps API? I imagine that the map data is downloaded as images. Is there any reason that we couldn't just grab that image data and display it in the display list?
