I think it is way to late to change that now, see Davids SVN commits today.
There are issues in the tracker regarding i18n, some of it has been
started but related issues not followed up, so I agree these if possible
should be sorted for the next 0.9 release.
You are correct the vote was already extended by 24 hours and the second
deadline has now passed.
This needs to go into an issue and we'll do it in a 0.8.1 or 0.9 release
very soon.
