Renato Javier MarroquĂn Mogrovejo commented on GORA-279:
--------------------------------------------------------

Hi guys,

Well, I think both of you know what I mean ;) we all want to keep pushing Gora
forward.
I totally agree with you [~ap.giannakidis] in which we should be able to
support different serialization formats, not just Avro. This is something we
([~lewismc] and me) have been talking for about 2 years now, and something we
should be able to let "contributors" to do if wished (hurray for open source
:)). But the strategy was to do well what we currently support (serialization
through Avro), and then start looking into new options, and with GORA-94 almost
being ready, then we could start thinking on this.
What [~alparslan.avci] has pointed out is really important as well. We should
define the "serialization how to". Right now we use Avro for serializing data,
and we try to support all Avro features through our compiler. Gora does not
handle serialization, it just encodes the data into Avro format and then lets
Avro handle serialization, and all datastores are forced to use this now (we
can have several pros and cons here).
Let's move this discussion into the dev mailing list as [~alparslan.avci]
suggested.
