If I'm allowed the indulgence of considering Homebrew as authoritative for OS X systems, it looks like I've been using 3.5.2 locally since whenever my last blanket upgrade day was. Current Homebrew maven formula is for 3.5.4. So that's one population of contributors who won't be burdened IMHO.
