It turned out that the root problem was not a regression but a genuine bug in
the IOSessionImpl class. The default value of the internal event mask of newly
created non-blocking I/O was not correctly initialized, which caused the READ
interest bit to get cleared in the interest op queuing mode unless the event
mask is explicitly reset.
Fixed in SVN trunk and 4.1.x branch.
