Yeah, I'd rather see fewer core modules rather than more.

Personally, I'd support creating an httpd-auth subproject or something like that which could house a bunch of (more, less?) obscure authn/authz modules.
It seems like we should be able to give mod_authn_mysql a proper home somewhere under our purview. -- justin
