I say go for it. I'll try to take a look at what made it into the repository when I get a chance, but I'm just too swamped right now. But, the core of Geoff's patch does look better than what we have and it should be in committable shape into unstable. Once it gets enough testing, it should be able to go into stable...


Also, when you commit, please just toss the old macro. There is zero sense in keeping the cruft around. -- justin

P.S. Madhu, *please*, *please*, *please* use unified diffs in the future. I know we've asked for this before, but I have no idea what the context of your patch that you had is. It makes it almost impossible to review.
