Ahhhh... that makes a LOT of sense. I don't claim to have time to review patches right now (I'm under deadline pressure for a research paper), but I just wanted to put in my $0.02. :) If nobody gets to looking at this in the next few weeks (though I suspect someone probably will), ping me and I'll dig into it after my deadline has past.
