but u can  create subpools... so that  when you free the subpool, all the
memory allocated from it will be free'd, isn't it?

this whole pool stuff should end up as ordinary malloc()s and free()s somehow, so no, i don't think that if speed is your concern, you should be using the memory management machinery of apache, because it will have its own (minimal) overhead.
