The thinking is that it is available for use - and it is in maven central - https://central.sonatype.com/artifact/org.apache.kafka/kafka_2.13 - but the mvnrepository seems to be an unofficial website that offers a nice UI for accessing maven central. The release is in the latter - https://central.sonatype.com/artifact/org.apache.kafka/kafka_2.13
