I covered much of the same ground Andrew and Bill already did and encountered no issues there either, so I won't repeat the details. Here is what I additionally checked, on macOS, JDK 21 (Temurin): * Verified the 4.2.2-rc1 git tag dereferences to commit c5e942859576203e1b00260070fe6241b64db251, which matches the commitId reported at broker startup by both the binary tarball and both Docker images. * I confirmed the currently staged kafka-clients-4.2.2.jar has Last-Modified 2026-09-22, consistent with the re-upload rather than a stale pre-drop copy. * Beyond the basic KIP-1071 smoke test, exercised kafka-streams-groups.sh end to end against a live streams group: --list, --describe --members/--state/--offsets/--verbose, and confirmed --reset-offsets --dry-run is rejected while the group is Stable and succeeds once it goes Empty. * Tested two specific fixes merged since 4.2.1: - KAFKA-20685 (EOS checkpoint file not deleted after restoration): forced a full restoration under exactly_once_v2 and confirmed the checkpoint file is gone by the time the task eaches RUNNING. - KAFKA-21096 (SharePartition metrics leak): confirmed via JMX that InFlightMessageCount, InFlightBatchCount and the related gauges/meters are properly deregistered once a SharePartition is fenced and removed from the cache (e.g. after the topic is deleted).
