Gwen Shapira commented on KAFKA-3475:
-------------------------------------

Its a very simple wrapper class for testing. It really has nothing to do with
Hadoop - they just needed the class for testing and implemented it. I don't see
a good reason to be tied to their development and release cycle for this. Why
not let Hadoop maintain a wrapper that clearly works for them, and we maintain
a similar wrapper that works for us? The core of the implementation is in LDAP,
which we both depend on.

> Introduce our own `MiniKdc`

> We rely on `hadoop-minikdc` for SASL unit and system tests. This library
> contains a single `MiniKdc` class that depends on Apache Directory Server for
> most of the functionality. Even so, there are a couple of bugs (KAFKA-3453,
> KAFKA-2866) that would be easy to fix if we had our own `MiniKdc`.
