A clean checkout and build seems to create a clean source tar ball

[~raju.bairishetti], Please do give this a shot. Also this seems largely fine
from a license stand point, although haven't reviewed it thorough enough.
I noticed some build errors though, but not sure if it is just in the trunk
version or also present in the release tag. (I built the release tar ball from
origin/master)
