Lens doesn't support API versioning or categorisation of APIs so there is no
easy way to make such changes. The biggest client I believe is the Lens Shell
which we will fix along with this. I think if we agree that the behaviour is an
improvement then it shouldn't be a cause of worry and I have seen precedents
for backward incompatible changes in several such cases in LENS. My $0.02
