Hi Imanol,

We are running a Lenya 2.0.3 instance on Jetty. We have noticed the file
system is being filled up by back up files in the LIVE area evertime we
save a piece of content in AUTHORING (even only changeing meta
information). This is especially space consuming when we deal with large
media files.

Is this a bug? or is there any reason for this behaviour?

this is due to the synchronization of the workflow meta data between the authoring and live areas. For more information, see the following bug report:

https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=44313

There are various approaches to get rid of the problem, but unforunately none of them seems to be trivial. The next major version will hopefully get rid of the multiple areas concept.
