Is a database the ideal option though?
I have recently been moving a lot of things you might consider content
out of database storage and into document repositories (alfresco / jack
rabbit etc).
Content repositories seem better suited now for documents - and I do
recall discussion of using a JCR repo as a backend for lenya in the past.
Just my 2 pence worth though.
