Hi Gerd,

1) available as an alternative to the current file based repo

Is a database the ideal option though?

I have recently been moving a lot of things you might consider content out of database storage and into document repositories (alfresco / jack rabbit etc).

Content repositories seem better suited now for documents - and I do recall discussion of using a JCR repo as a backend for lenya in the past.

I agree that it makes more sense to implement JCR, than a particular relational database. I don't think the performance issues are due to the filesystem itself though, but rather how the various functionalities are implemented.

Having said that I very well understand Gerd's requirements and it definitely makes sense to re-consider specific architecture design decisions.

Thanks

Michael

Just my 2 pence worth though.
