If I edit the dictionary.lst file and write
DICT it IT ia HYPH it IT hyph_ia
This is the good approach
and I select italian language, then I the text I write gets correly spellchecked and hyphenated according to interlingua rules. Look like some configuration file for interlingua is missing, but which?
Did you try
DICT ia ANY ia HYPH ia ANY hyph_ia
as it is done for esperanto
