Hello Clytie and everyone at the list , nice to hear again from you.

Good to talk to you again, too, Ivan. :)

Unfortunately, there were several months during which I could not participate. So I'm trying to catch up now.

The current Vietnamese Language Pack for Dicooo is here:
http://code.google.com/p/hunspell-spellcheck-vi/

I have tested in Linux and Windows without having any issue. If you know of anybody that have encountered issues with the dictionary while using Windows, please ask them to submit a bug at http://code.google.com/p/hunspell-spellcheck-vi/issues/list

I have had good feedback on this dictionary. My main concern at the moment is to ask how far along we are with integrating it in OpenOffice.org.

In my MacOSX DEV300_m14 build, I can spellcheck in Vietnamese, simply by choosing Vietnamese under Tools > Options > Language Settings > Language, then choosing the Hunspell dictionary listed under Writing Aids. Is this not your dictionary?

In the MacOSX build, I can also access the normal OSX spellchecking functions (which, with the help of CocoAspell, include the 70-odd Aspell language dictionaries), but currently I'm testing the Hunspell dictionary in OpenOffice.org.

I am particularly concerned about the status of Vietnamese spellchecking at this point, because we are going to have a huge response to the OpenOffice.org 3.0 Vietnamese release (since it's the first release with a full Help translation), and a functional spellchecker is essential, or we will lose those new users very quickly.

Dicooo I understand is a Macro for Ooo and you should be able to translate their code without having to compile again or anything. Just download the latest version of that Dicooo sourcecode and add a new entry for Vietnamese.

If you recall, I did translate all those strings, and send them to you, last September. Do you still have them? Did you submit them to the OpenOffice.org project?

However, I think for Ooo 3.x the use of Dicooo will disappear because the dictionaries will become Extensions (like the .xpi in Firefox and Thunderbird) ,in Ooo will be .oxt, see example at http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/maori-papakupu

I'll be working soon to create that .oxt for the Vietnamese language spellchecker so we can test it the Ooo beta 3.

That sounds like a good idea. Is it likely this extension would be functional in time for the OpenOffice.org 3.0 release?

Thanks for your quick response here. I hope everything is going well for you and your family. :)
