I agree with Simon on his points .. my major gripe with it as a developer, who has
looked for CF work over some months, is that some companies have used fusebox and
found it to be a bit crap and then surmised that all of CF is rubbish and wont touch
it again. This is ,of course, not fusebox's fault but there are a lot of people who
think CF = fusebox and I just think that's bad for the community. (Of course there are
a lot of terrible CF developers out there whos shonky work stuffs it up for everyone
no matter what methodology they use :¬)

(I've also always found Fusebox people a little fanatical, so I expect a charred,
urine soaked copy of a Ben Forta book to turn up on my doorstep over the next few days
:¬)

I'm a little too busy to be very descript, but I wouldn't really call FB a
methodology... it's a bunch of custom tags. That said, FB creates a
framework for doing things that hides developers from the server... scopes
are blurred, everything runs through a single file, error handling is
screwy, lots of things about building FB apps. that hinder developers from
learning how to really use CFML properly. If you know how to develop, FB is
unnecessary. There are some good things about it - if all of a company's
apps. are FB apps then there is standardization across all of these aps.
(hopefully). Also, it attempts to seperate business logic from presentation
layer which is a very good thing, though on CFMX, FB doesn't seperate logic
from display anywhere near as well CFCs allow you to. There are a lot of
things that could be said on the topic. All in all, I think FB is great for
people who need to build an app. in a very short time and either don't know
where to begin on their own or simply can't write the business logic on
their own. Otherwise, it's more of a hinderance.

I'm what you would call a staunch supporter of fusebox, but I have noticed
some animosity to the beast that is fb on this list.

So what is it you don't like about it?

I have found it to be one of the more successful web methodologies.

Adam
