Yes, it's normal to see those two directories.
The most common issue is that the bios is not configured to boot the
key. The usbkey will show up as a disk, so usually (at least on my
eeepc901) you have to go into the bios settings for hard disk boot
order, and set the usb key as the first disk to be booted.
