The code is running on Java 7, but you're right : it is a real mess (and it
only contains one of the items required to have the precise timestamp support).
While implementing this, I realized that Java 8 is nearly mandatory to do
something clean without reinventing the wheel. And even in that case, there
will be some pretty impacting changes that will need further thoughts
Since I need to have this feature in a very near future, I will do a fork with
minimal code changes (basically hacking the nanotime field of the event to
store something else than System.nanotime()) and wait for log4J to upgrade to
Java 8 or 9 to submit a cleaner proposal
